By: Emily J. Degen
You often hear or even see signs around you that say, “Shop Local”. So, what exactly does that mean? Does it really make a difference?
If you are a business owner yourself, you understand the importance of purchasing local and, depending on the amount of your companies “traffic”, it might make or break you.
However, if you do not operate or work for a family or locally owned business, you might not think twice about the impacts supporting local companies has.
Typically, when you buy any goods or services from a locally owned shop, you personally make an investment in the area in which you spend your money. This could also have an impact on your community and even in your own neighborhood.
Most locally owned businesses you buy from, will generally practice what they preach and purchase from other local businesses in return. This will keep money flowing in your community, help other local business continue to grow, your town or city to thrive, and even keep or create new jobs where you live.
So, whether you are purchasing groceries, grabbing a pizza or looking to build an addition onto your home, check out the local businesses in your area, and help build a better tomorrow where YOU live!
